A Christmas Card for a Stranger

A Christmas card for a stranger

There’s an empty space on the shelf this year
Where a Christmas card should be
For every year I’d send a card
And you’d send one to me
But Heaven has no mailbox
I cannot let you know
That you will always be my friend
And that I miss you so.
So I’m sending out these words
To someone just like me
Who’s lost a friend or two this year
That they miss constantly
For love is like a Christmas card
It’s better shared around
And love brings hope and comfort
Wherever it is found
A heart is here, just for us
To cut it out and write
The name of one whose memory
Shines like a candle bright.
Let’s raise a toast to friendship
For the ones we won’t forget
And share peace and joy at Christmas
Between friends who’ve never met

(Jo Collett December 2018, in loving memory of  Jill, Ruth and especially Irma).
